15 APRIL 1912
Wireless operator Harold Cottam heard Titanic’s distress signals. Captain Arthur Rostron ordered Carpathia towards the stricken liner, navigating hazardous ice as the crew prepared accommodation and medical care.
By morning, lifeboats came into view. Survivors were brought aboard and Carpathia returned to New York. The rescue remains the defining chapter in her story.
BEYOND THE RESCUE
Before and after 1912, Carpathia connected people across the Atlantic, including Mediterranean ports and New York.
Her service continued during the First World War. On 17 July 1918, the ship was torpedoed by the German submarine U-55 and sank off Ireland.
The film and expedition projects connect archival research with a new effort to document the wreck and preserve its memory.
